BACKGROUND

Dr. Menzies was heavily involved in athletics during high school and was a student-athlete on the track team of the University of California, Irvine.  After college, he earned a masters degree in exercise physiology from the University of Texas at Austin and was very involved with the UT football team as a graduate assistant.  During this time and throughout medical school and residency he completed multiple marathons and half-Ironman triathlons. This background drove him towards a career in sports medicine and interventional pain to channel that same passion to help provide individuals an option for recovery if surgery is not indicated.

His training led to a diverse background of sports coverage.  He was a TCU football team physician from 2008-2014 and was on the sidelines for their memorable 2011 Rose Bowl victory.  Additionally, he was one of the lead boxing and UFC physicians in Texas for many years and had the privilege of being a physician for the 2010 U.S. Olympic boxing trials as well as being Manny Pacquio’s ringside doctor for his 2010 title fight against Joshua Clottey at Cowboys stadium.

After graduation he stayed at John Peter Smith hospital and served as the medical director of the pain management department for several years. In addition to his love of teaching hospital residents and medical students he also published multiple research articles and was a featured international speaker on new pain interventional techniques to help with knee osteoarthritis.

HONORS

Fort Worth, Texas magazine every year sends more than 4,500 local physicians a survey asking them to voluntarily rate their peers and name the best doctors in Tarrant County.  Medical professionals willing to participate go online to cast their votes. Dr. Menzies has been voted 11 years straight by his peers as a Top Interventional Pain Doctor from 2012 to 2021.  Additionally in the first three years of his practice he was the recipient of the Dallas/Fort Worth “Rising Stars” award
